What it’s About and What’s Needed at the Moment
The Mount Pearl Ministerial Community Supper Coordinating Group has been formed to include First United, the Mount Pearl Anglican Churches, Roman Catholic churches, Pentecostal church and Solid Rock church, the City of Mount Pearl and Coffee Matters. The group is collaborating to provide a nurturing sense of belonging in a friendly atmosphere by providing high quality food and services to an all-inclusive community of the citizens of Mount Pearl and surrounding areas.
The group is looking for much needed resources to help launch the community suppers at Park Place this fall! They are looking for gently used dinnerware (no chips or cracks accepted) including: dinner plates, bowls, mugs, mason jars to be used for water glasses. Every donation will help as together, the churches of Mount Pearl Ministerial hope to provide food, fellowship, and comfort to families in Mount Pearl. Please bring your donations here to the church, and we will ensure the donations get to the right place.
Gary Gosse is First United’s representative on this committee. If you have questions, please contact Gary at 364-7388.

Message from Daphne and Ed Blandford, Winnipeg, MB
We are so proud and fortunate to have been a part of the First United Church Family for ten years. The Church had been a very important part of our lives while we lived in Mount Pearl, and we still often talk about the memories and friends we made there. You were a very welcoming church and, also, a very caring church family. That was made very evident to us throughout our health issues, and we are so Grateful for that.
We are making a donation to the choir, in thanks for their great talent and commitment to First United. Peter has made a name for himself just by being the director and organist there. We both appreciate his contribution to “our church”. Just recently we had a CD of two church services, as well as the concert of 2017, and a service prepared by the Blended Voices choir, done for us and sent to us through the kindness of Mr. Harold Sinyard and Mrs. Madeline Rideout. Many thanks to these wonderful people. We both enjoyed all the music and complete services so much. It was wonderful to hear Rev. Ian again, too. We miss him and all of the church family, very much. Ed especially misses the Camaraderie that the choirs provided.
We wish you all a wonderful summer of fun and fellowship with your family and friends, and to those travelling, a safe and happy journey.

We know summer has just begun, but it is not too early to start thinking about BAG TO SCHOOL. This year, Bridges to Hope is once again reaching out to our faith-based community with a request for specific school supplies and are asking for donations of Pencil Cases. We are hoping you can help us to help students get a good start in 2019.
The summer season is here and, as we begin our summer activities, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy summer.
First United is already making plans for the Fall of 2019. We have many active groups and ministries within our congregation. These include choirs (Senior Choir, Men's Choir, and Youth Choir), the UCW, the Men's Club which continues to be active, along with SNAC (the Youth Group) and Book Club. We continue to support our outreach ministries through Stella Burry Community Services and Bridges to Hope Food Bank, as well as our Quilts for Comfort Program. The Benevolent Fund is also used to assist families and individuals in times of crisis or emergency situations.
Fundraising is very important in the life and work of the church. Again, as in past summers, we are undertaking a joint fundraising effort between the SNAC, Church Board and the Congregation entitled
TOGETHER - WE CAN!
In June a can distributed to each family in our congregation in the hope that you will drop in any coins or other currency you may be able to spare during the summer months. The CANS will be collected in the Fall and your contribution will be credited to your church givings. Proceeds from the CAN Project will be shared with the Youth Group, who will use its share to help fund upcoming activities that are planned for 2018 2019. The remainder will be used to cover on-going church expenses.
This is our 15th year with the CAN Project and to date it has been very successful. I feel confident that we will have another successful project again this Summer. You can bring your CAN to the church on or before September 22nd or call the church office if you would like someone to pick it up. Don't forget to write your envelope number in the space provided on the label.
During this restive period of the summer season, we are not always able to attend Sunday services but the operational expenses of our church continue. Please consider an automatic pre-authorized remittance (PAR) post dated cheques or donating online. It's easy and our system is completely confidential. Click here to download a PAR form or to donate online. I thank you for your continued support of your church.
Be safe in your travels, enjoy the visits and social gatherings of family and friends during this summer season.
Yours in Christ
Rev. Ian March MacCuish
