Food Bank Sunday at First United Church - April 7th:  The first Sunday of the month has been designated as Food Bank Sunday. Members of the congregation are asked to bring along any non-perishable food items and place them in the bin in the church vestibule. Envelopes are also available in the church pews if you would like to make a contribution. You can also visit their website, www.bridgestohope.ca, to make a donation online.

Prayer Vigil24 hour Prayer Vigil

Take the opportunity to spend an hour of quiet time to meditate, reflect and pray

We are looking for people to take part in the Vigil from midnight Thursday to midnight Good Friday.

We've posted the Prayer Wheel at the back of the church. Please fill in the time you are available.  OR, if you have questions or need assistance, feel free to call the office at 368-2194. Office hours are 9 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday.

And The Game Was On!

QUILTING GROUP:  The next meetings of the Quilting Group is April 15th.   We start at 7:30 pm (location - Multipurpose Room).

BOOK CLUB - April 24th:  The next meeting of the Book Club will be April 24th at 7 pm. The book being discussed is ‘They left us everything: A Memoir’ by Plum Johnson. All are welcome. Happy reading!

 
REMINDERS:

UCW Practice for Good Friday Service - April 7th:  Tw0 practices left before our Good Friday Service: Sunday Sunday, April 7th (after worship services).  Then we have the final practice, Saturday practice on April  13th.  Please make a special effort to attend!

UCW and Men's Club - Visit to Kenny's Pond Retirement Home - April 7th: On Sunday, April 7th (2:30pm) the UCW, Men’s Club and Rev. Ian will be visiting Kenny's Pond Retirement Home for an hour of worship, fellowship and singing.

UCW Meeting - April 8th: A reminder to UCW members of our regular meeting April 8th at 7:30 pm. We will be hosting special guests from George Street UCW, Solid Rock Women’s Group and ‘The Right Fit’. Our UCW members are asked to bring along something to have with a cup of tea (sandwiches / cookies).  Also, please remember to bring along your personal care items. New members are always welcome!

April 19th, 8 - 10 am - Good Friday Fish & Brewis Breakfast in Trinity Hall. Our annual Good Friday Fish and Brewis breakfast is coming up on April 19th from 8 am to 10 am. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children. Tickets will be available at the door.  

April 21st 9 am - Annual Easter Sunday Breakfast hosted by the Youth Group. 

 

2019 Turkey TeasTASTY TURKEY TEAS: We will be having our Tasty Take Out Turkey Teas on May 3rd, 2019. The cost is $12 per plate.

Order forms for places of work are available at the church office or you can download the form here. Please call the church office to provide us with your business name and location. First United will have someone visit your office on April 26th to collect the completed forms and the payment, and the cold plates will be delivered to your business location before lunch on May 3rd.

About the Flea Market

The Men’s Club Flea Market is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th. Items can be dropped off at the church during office hours. BRIDGES TO HOPE AGM: The Annual General Meeting for 2018 for Bridges to Hope, Inc. will take place Monday, April 8th, 2019 at 7:30 pm at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Hall. Agenda includes Reports, Financial Statements, Elections, and By-Laws. All welcome.

Bridges to Hope

BRIDGES MOOSEBURGER FUNDRAISER: On Saturday April 13th, 2019 Bridges to Hope will be holding their annual Mooseburger Fundraiser at St. Andrews Church on Longs Hill, from 4:00 – 6:30 pm. The cost will be $6.00 for a Mooseburger or $8.00 for a Mooseburger, water and a bag of chips. The goal is to sell 350 burgers. They are asking people to pre-order to ensure they do not have wastage. You can pre order on a sign-up sheet here at the church, or go to the website: www.bridgestohope.ca

Beverage Container Recycling

Reminder to Support SNAC

SNAC, our Youth Group, Collects Recyclables.  The Beverage Container Recycling is an ongoing project for SNAC. They use the proceeds to help fund their activities.

If you would like to drop off your beverage recycling at the church, here’s what can be recycled: aluminum can; plastic containers; glass bottles; steel cans; drink boxes (tetra); mini sips (drink pouches) etc. (Please wash out all bottles and remove all caps before dropping them off.)  Please note: we are requesting beverage containers only!

Church-Wide Appeal

The United Church sent an initial contribution of $20,000 to partners and is launching an church-wide appeal to respond to massive emergency needs and support eventual rehabilitation and rebuilding. Immediate priorities are basic food items, potable water and water purification tablets, blankets, clothing, soap, medical items and mosquito nets.
