November 4 - Call To Worship

In a world that oppresses the most vulnerable,
we praise a God who watches over the outcast and the stranger.
In a world where food is wasted while others live in famine,
we praise a God who provides enough food for all.
In a world where it can be hard to remain hopeful,
we praise a God who keeps faith forever, from generation to generation.

Come, let us worship God

baptismOn Sunday, November 4th, we welcome into the Body of Christ, through the Sacrament of Baptism

Aubree Dawn Peddle, daughter of Katie and Mitchell Peddle

Thank you to the United Church Women for donating the Baptism Candles and the Worship Committee for donating the Children’s Bibles.

Christmas Light Service 2018

Focus On First United

Laughing FaceChuckle for the Week:  Three friends decided to go hunting together. One was a lawyer, one a doctor, and the other a minister. As they were walking, along came a big moose. The three of them shot simultaneously. Immediately the moose dropped to the ground. All three rushed to see how big it was. Upon reaching it, they found it only had one bullet hole. Thus, a debate followed on whose moose it was. A games officer arrived and inquired as to what the problem was. They explained to him why they were having a debate. After a few minutes, the officer says, “I know who shot the moose”. They all wondered how he knew that so quickly. The officer said, “Easy. The bullet went in one ear and out the other.”

EXPLORER PROJECT 2019

We have been presented an opportunity by Conference to host an Explorer. First United would like to participate and endorse a youth who has shown leadership qualities. This initiative is designed to encourage young adults to consider a ministry vocation. Some of you may remember that we took part in such a project three years ago when we had the privilege to host Katie VanKonaught.

How it works and what's needed:  The person will come to our church from May to July to learn about the ministry in the United Church of Canada. As a host church, we will need to provide accommodations for this Explorer. If you can help out with accommodations, please call the church office or speak to Rev. Ian or Joan Winsor.

Help WantedSNOW SHOVELING – FIRST UNITED:

First United is looking to hire a person on a part-time basis to shovel our walkways and fire exits when we have snow. There is a snow blower at the church that you can use.

If you are interested or have any questions, please talk to Rev. Ian or Joan Winsor.

Prayer Group at First United
Thursday Mornings 10 am

First United offers a prayer group on Thursday Mornings at 10 am (approximately 1 hour ). We make use of different forms of prayers: spoken and silent, meditative and contemplative.  There is a specific time that prepares us to receive the gift of prayer; prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.

Why not join us in the sanctuary!  All are welcome!
