SNAC is BACK

Pumpkin Carving and Trunk or Treat at First United - October 28th

Please join our youth for an evening of spookatcular fun!! Please bring your pumpkin. We will be having pumpkin carving, face painting, tattoos, a punch box and much more followed by Trunk or Treat.  At Trunk or Treat children dress in their Halloween costumes and walk through a parking lot, stopping at cars that have decorated trunks and receiving treats.

Any donations for the punch box would be appreciated! If you would like to decorate your vehicle and fill that trunk with treats, you will be sure to get a warm chuckle and make the little ones happy! (And the big ones too!!) Everyone welcome!!

It's an ANNUAL Event hosted by SNAC! Mark the date - Sunday, October 28th.  Carving starts at 6 pm.

It is such fun. You won't want to miss it!

Let us praise and bless our great and glorious God

Come, let us worship God

Worship with Us

We invite you to join us in worship and in fellowship.  No matter what the age, there's bound to be something for you.  If you are new to the area and our church, please let us know so we can welcome you properly.

Focus On First United

Laughing FaceChuckle for the Week:  One Sunday, a minister asked his congregation to consider giving a little extra in the offering plate. He said whoever gave the most would be able to pick out three hymns.

After the offering plates were passed, the minister noticed someone had contributed a $100 bill. Extremely grateful, he wanted to personally thank the generous person before the congregation and asked the person to come forward. A quiet, elderly widow shyly raised her hand and came forward. He told her how wonderful it was that she gave so much and asked her to pick out three hymns. Her eyes brightened as she pointed to the three handsomest men in the congregation: “I’ll take him and him and him.”

Prayer Group at First United
Thursday Mornings 10 am

First United offers a prayer group on Thursday Mornings at 10 am (approximately 1 hour ). We make use of different forms of prayers: spoken and silent, meditative and contemplative.  There is a specific time that prepares us to receive the gift of prayer; prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself. This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.

Why not join us in the sanctuary!  All are welcome!

Updates - Regional and National

Mission and Service

Photo of people walking over debris from damaged buildings and trees
We are accepting donations to help Mission & Service partners respond to devastating natural disasters in the Asia Pacific Region.

Japan, China, Hong Kong, and the Philippines have all sustained major damage as massive typhoons swept across their countries this fall. And there is strong possibility of more to come. In addition, Indonesia experienced two significant earthquakes that cost thousands of lives, many lost in the tsunami that followed the latest earthquake. These disasters also destroyed vital transportation and communication links making emergency response challenging.

In the midst of this, United Church Mission & Service partner ACT Alliance, working with other partners in the region, is responding to these devastating events with medical teams to treat the injured, damage assessment teams, food, shelter, and agricultural support to replant crops. They are concentrating their resources to reach the most remote and underserviced communities. United Church donations will support this critical work.

Please include the people of the Asia Pacific Region in your prayers as they face the long and difficult journey from emergency response to reconstruction and recovery. Click here to go directly to the article on the website for national church.

Naming Our Region

ContestThe new structure for the United Church of Canada was approved at GC43 this summer.  That means Newfoundland and Labrador Conference no longer exists.  We are now Region 16.  Now that isn't a name. It's just a number.  So we are holding a Contest in search of a name that truly reflects who we are and what we are about.

About the Contest

  • the name must be no longer than 44 characters
  • a panel will select ONE name from those submitted
  • the winner will receive a prize
  • deadline is October 26, 2018
  • Submit your entry to unitedchurch@nfld.net
