Appeal for Linens, Pots and Pans
Home Again Furniture Bank is a local nonprofit organization that provides gently-used furniture and housewares to individuals and families in need. Home Again urgently needs double sheets and blankets, as well as pots and pans to deliver to homes throughout our region. In partnership with Home Again, we are collecting linens, pots and pans throughout the month of February.
You can drop off items during our regular church office hours, or bring them in on Sunday during regular worship service. Thank you for your support to this appeal!
The UCW are holding an appreciation luncheon following the worship service on February 16th.
Come one, come all to Trinity Hall for fellowship with the UCW members!
MEN’S CLUB JIGGS DINNER
The Men’s Club will be hosting a Jiggs Dinner at 5:30 pm on Friday, February 28.
Tickets are $15 and are available from members of the Men’s Club or at the church office.
QUILTING GROUP: The next meeting for the Quilting Group will be on Monday, February 17th at 7:30 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.
UCW Meeting: The UCW meeting will be held tomorrow night, Monday, February 10th at 7:30 pm in Trinity Hall. Please remember to bring your personal care items. Membership fees and Valendimes are now due. New members are always welcome!
BLENDED VOICES PRACTICE: In preparation for the upcoming evening service on February 23rd, the Blended Voices Choir will practice on the following Wednesdays: February 12th and 19th at 8:15 pm in the Sanctuary.
UCW/MEN’S CLUB: The UCW and Men’s Club will be visiting Hillcrest Retirement Home on February 24th at 7 pm for a time of fellowship with the residents.
BOOK CLUB: Because our January 22nd meeting was cancelled due to the weather, we will still be discussing the book ‘Educated” by Tara Westover. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, February 26th at 7 pm in Trinity Hall.
New Board Members Needed
It is almost at the end of the term for several members currently serving on the Board here at First United. If you are interested in serving on the board or serving on a committee, please let Rev. Ian or Joan Winsor know.
Official Board of First United
The following is a breakdown of the Official Board of First United Church Mount Pearl. A more detailed breakdown is provided in the Constitution. (A copy of the Constitution is available at the church office)
Chairperson: The duty of the chairperson shall be to preside at meetings, to preserve order, to take the vote and to announce the decisions of the Official Board.
Secretary: The duty of the secretary is to keep records of proceedings, to conduct correspondence and to preserve all documents.
Treasurer: The treasurer shall be responsible for keeping proper books of accounts and accounting records with respect to all financial transactions of the congregation.
Stewardship Committee: The duties of the Stewardship Committee are - to be responsible for the overall stewardship level of the congregation so that its full financial potential can be realized, to set and monitor budgets, bring reports to the board and annual meeting.
Christian Development Committee: The duties of the CD Committee are - responsibility for planning the CD program and to provide leadership for all programs and groups in the congregation.
Property Committee: The duties of the committee are to care for and ensure that an adequate maintenance program is carried out for all church property.
Membership & Social Outreach: The duties of this committee are - to initiate and implement social outreach programs for the church, to initiate programs for inactive members, non-adherents and to encourage new membership.
Worship Committee: The duties of this committee are - to work closely with the minister. They look after all aspects of evangelism in the church, ushers, communion, baptism, choirs and pulpit supply in the minister’s absence.
Ministry & Personnel Committee: The duties of this committee are - to provide a consultative and supportive agency for the staff of the church and for members and adherents of the congregation, review working conditions, remuneration for the staff and report back to the board.

Building Fund Sunday - February 23rd: The last Sunday of the month has been designated as Building Fund Sunday. Envelopes are available in the church pews if you would like to make a contribution. Thank you for your continued support.
Beverage Container Recycling
DOING CHRISTMAS CLEANING?
Great opportunity to support our Youth Group Beverage Container Recycling: Our Youth Group collects beverage containers for recycling. If you would like to drop off your beverage recycling at the church, here’s what can be recycled: aluminum can; plastic containers; glass bottles; steel cans; drink boxes (tetra); mini sips (drink pouches) etc. (Please wash out all bottles and remove all caps before dropping them off.)

Food Bank Sunday at First United Church - March 1st: The first Sunday of the month has been designated as Food Bank Sunday. Members of the congregation are asked to bring along any non-perishable food items and place them in the bin in the church vestibule. Envelopes are also available in the church pews if you would like to make a contribution. You can also visit their website, www.bridgestohope.ca, to make a donation online.
